The ECAA utilizes a combination of paid professionals and volunteer professionals to provide its services. Currently, we have seven paid positions within the ECAA. We have dozens of volunteers.
We utilize volunteers to staff the third due BLS ambulance on weekdays during the day. We utilize volunteers to staff all services Monday through Thursday nights from 1800 hours through 0600 the next morning. We also utilize volunteers from Friday night at 1800 hours through Monday morning at 0600 hours.
Our BLS volunteer crews are staffed with 2 to 4 people at a time depending upon availability. Trainees are provided with the opportunity to run with experienced crews until they become more comfortable with their skills.
We allow our volunteers the privilege of responding for calls from within a 5 minute response of our station or they are allowed to relax in our comfortable station between calls. We have a significant enough call volume to allow the volunteers to maintain their skill proficiencies.
Our volunteers are expected to donate an average of 24 hours of service per month. Our volunteers are provided with the following benefits:
- Workmen's compensation insurance
- Motorola Minitor pager
- Jacket
- Uniform T-shirts
- Uniform allowance
- Training re-imbursement (after 6 months of service)
Volunteer applicants are screened for criminal background checks and must be voted in by the ECAA Board of Directors. We are always accepting applications for new volunteers.
